| Seriously People? Proposition J on the San Francisco City Ballot: "Shall it be City policy to call for the impeachment of President Bush and Vice President Cheney." No, I don't like George Bush. No, I am not Republican. But did our city supervisors seriously take time out to put this on our ballots, then go on to write 6 pages explaining the darn thing? California was never a Bush fan. They weren't in '00, they weren't in '04 and they're not going to be in '08 (for Jeb). There is no doubt that if one state, or one city had the power to impeach the President, he wouldn't be there today. But the fact of the matter is that he managed to get elected, then reelected. How long do you think it would take for something like this to take on any actionable shape or form? I'm a fan of actionable solutions and conscientious, efficient leaders. Making a city policy over something that is so far out of our control is neither actionable or efficient. It's utterly ridiculous. After this, I propose that we make it city policy to end world hunger. With all of the problems plaguing the city these days, where did Chris Daly find time to pen this proposition? Seriously people, can we concentrate on the problems at-hand? | | |
| No Moaners Please I've been taking tennis classes recently (yes...all you ex-tennis clubbers beware...there may be a tennis club revival coming to a court near you). A new session started yesterday and we had several new faces...and apparently...new noises. You know the girl or the guy that has to make a sound everytime they swing their racquet or make contact with the ball? Yeah...that's the one we got. A little asian girl who moans as if she's not on a tennis court and no one else is around. At first, it was a little amusing to have a bunch of twenty-somethings and thirty-somethings giggling as if they were school children and someone just used the "s" word. But after the first ten minutes of amusement, it just got irritating. There are a few areas in life where moaning is probably more than appropriate. Tennis just shouldn't be one of them. | | |
| Freudian Slip After a nice Saturday dinner, I asked my friend if they wanted to go to Mitchell Bros for dessert. They looked perplexed. So I naturally assumed that they had never been there before. To which I inquired (with shock), "You've never had Mitchell Bros before?!?!" Still, a perplexed look came from the other side. So naturally, I urged further, "They have the best ice cream!" Then an expression of relief and: "OH, you mean Mitchell's Ice Cream!" To which I replied, "Yes! .....why, what did I say?" | | |
| The end of an era...
Sally the Saturn has served me well for the past 8 and half years. (Can you believe it’s been that long?) She’s endured years of street parking on the harsh streets of Walnut and Cedar on northside and Warring and Dwight on southside. She stood strong when frat boys decided to roll a dumpster down Dwight and hit a few cars in the process. She didn’t complain when I spilled super-sized drinks on her floor and never once did I hear a peep when I used my feet to kick her door closed (hey…they were plastic doors). So it was a bittersweet moment when I left her at the Volvo dealership late Sunday night in all her decrepit glory. It’s been a fun ride. She will be missed.
A new era has officially begun…from now on…it will be me and Varick the Volvo. May he live long and prosper (much like Sally did).

| It's MENSA Day
I start every morning with a brainteaser. Why? Because I got the Mensa 365 Brain Puzzlers Calendar and it sits on my desk and stares at me mockingly until I solve it and show it who's boss. And since everyone gets a little bored at work on Fridays...I thought I'd make it a Mensa day. Here's the puzzle of the day:
What two words, formed from different arrangments of the same eight letters, can be used to complete the sentence below?
After the outdoor __________, the park's Lost and Found office was filled with many __________ people had left behind.
Anyone with a valid answer gets a prize. | | |
